About Simon
I’m an Executive Director by profession and a writer by curiosity.
For years, I’ve been drawn to the same question in different contexts: what happens when efficiency replaces relationship?
That question became this book. I wrote it for every parent who felt the same way watching Adolescence (Netflix, 2025) and didn’t know what to do about it.
More recently, I’ve been asking the same question closer to home. What happens to parenting when another voice begins to answer questions, shape curiosity, and earn trust?
Through my blog, The Frightened Face of Nature, I’ve explored our changing relationship with the natural world. As a Fellow of the Linnean Society of London (FLS), I’ve spent time thinking seriously about what we lose when attention, care and humility fall away – in nature, and in ourselves.
Those same instincts brought me to this book.

I’m also a public speaker and podcast host, and I’ve written for The Guardian – Spectre of destruction: the lost manuscript of the real-life ‘M’.
If you’re a parent trying to make sense of what AI means for your child’s world, this book is for you.
